CFOS faculty member, researcher earn doctorate degrees in the US

A faculty member and a researcher of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS) earned their doctorate degrees in the United States (US) in Spring 2020.

Asst. Prof. Rhoda Mae C. Simora, faculty member of the Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT), CFOS and Ms. Farisal Ungkakay-Bagsit, University Researcher of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS), CFOS successfully completed all the academic requirements for graduation for their PhD degrees from Auburn University and the East Carolina University, respectively.

Simora, a recipient of the Fulbright-CHED Scholar under the Philippine-American Education Foundation also known as Fulbright Commission in the Philippines, took her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Fisheries at the School of Fisheries Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences, Auburn University, Alabama, USA, in August 2017.

Meanwhile, Bagsit, who is also a Fulbright scholar, pursued her PhD in Coastal Resources Management at the East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, USA starting August 2016. She was initiated to The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Ph, one of the oldest and most selective honor societies that recognize excellence in all academic disciplines, in the said University in recognition of her academic achievements.

Both were graduates of BS in Fisheries from UP Visayas. Simora finished her Master of Science in Environmental Biotechnology from Gyeongsang National University, South Korea while Bagsit earned her degree in Master in Marine Affairs from UPV-CFOS. (Lenilyn B. Gallos/CFOS)
