Campus cats and dogs benefit from UPV UP/OC’s TNVR

Cats and dogs in the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Miagao campus were gathered for the Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) Activity of the UPV Ugnayan ng Pahinungód/Oblation Corps (UP/OC), held at the Balay Kalagday last May 30, 2024.

The TNVR is one of the activities under the University’s Balay Kalagday – The Animal Care Program of UPV UP/OC. A total of 20 cats and dogs were neutered during the activity according to the Aklan State University – Extension and Community Services.

Before the TNVR, the UPV UP/OC, Security Service Force (SSF), and Project PAWradise conducted the updating of the inventory of the campus animals, including the pets of the residents of the UPV faculty and staff house units. The team also did the trapping and brought them to the Balay Kalagday for the eight-hour fasting before the neutering.

During the TNVR, general checkups and neutering were performed by the Aklan State University – School of Veterinary Medicine (ASU-SVM) faculty-veterinarians and students. The Miagao Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) staff administered the anti-rabies vaccine to the campus animals.

The post-operation care of the neutered campus animals for seven days is currently handled by Project PAWradise and UPV UP/OC. The TNVR activity also involved the implementation of the QR tagging of the campus cats and dogs as part of the PAWSlink app developed by the partner and UPV UP/OC volunteer-BS Computer Science students, which is envisioned to make the management of campus animals more efficient.

The TNVR Activity was conducted in partnership with ASU and Project PAWradise, together with the Miagao Municipal Government - MAO, LalaLand Animal Clinic, Bantayan Veterinary Clinic, Greenscape Petshop and Supplies, and Petfurryville Veterinary Clinic, with the assistance of the Security Service Force and Campus Development and Management Office team of the University.
