Asst. Prof. Edelia T. Braga is the new Principal of UP High School in Iloilo from 17 April 2023 to 16 April 2026. The Administrative Order was signed by Chancellor Clement C. Camposano on 14 April 2023.
Prof. Braga finished BS Applied Math at UP Visayas (UPV) in 1995 and taught at the University as a fresh graduate starting 1 June 1995. She has been teaching for the past 28 years as a Mathematics professor at the Division of Physical Sciences and Mathematics.
She has taught a wide array of students, including those from UPHSI, whom she taught General Mathematics and Precalculus. Apart from teaching in the BS Applied Math program of DPSM, she also taught Set Theory and Logic, Topology, Analysis - Calculus for Teachers, and Abstract Algebra in the Master of Education (Math) program of the Division of Professional Education. Moreover, she also handles NSTP and teaches in the Summer Bridge Program of the University.
She completed her Master of Mathematics at UP Diliman in 2002. Not long after the completion of her Master’s degree, she went on to pursue her Doctor of Philosophy (Mathematics) in the same campus, finished all the academic units required, and passed the comprehensive examination.
Braga is also a published author of “An Application of the Poisson Summation Formula to Numerical Integration” published in June 2006. She co-authored the book “Bugana: Fishing Community Cultural Contexts for High School Mathematics,” which was launched last November 19, 2022.
She also served as Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs from 2007 to 2008. Her diligence and hardworking character opened doors for her to act as Officer-in-Charge in various UPV offices from 2007-2008.
Braga also acted as Secretary of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines Region VI, Adviser of the UPV Math Circle, Chair of the CAS UP Kaagapay from 2021-2022, Chair of the committee for the selection of the new Chair of the Department of Chemistry in 2018, Chair of the DPSM CAS Fund Drive, and Chair of the CAS Committee for Merchandise during the 75th celebration of UP Presence in Iloilo. In 2022, she was a consultant in the curriculum review of the BS Applied Math program of West Visayas State University.
Braga is scheduled to take her oath as new Principal on Wednesday, 19 April 2023.
