Prof. Maria Elisa Baliao, a faculty member of the Division of Social Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), is the new Director of the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV).
Her appointment marks her return to the OAR as its Director, previously holding the position from November 2008 to October 2011. Her current term is effective from Nov. 3, 2023 to Nov. 2, 2026.
Among the notable accomplishments during her previous term include raising funds for the acquisition of the UPV bus for the faculty and staff; starting activities for the annual UPV alumni homecoming, in partnership with fraternities and sororities; and setting in place the annual polling for the UP Alumni Association (UPAA) officers.
She was also the Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Alumni Affairs from June 2001 to May 2004. During her time, she revitalized the then defunct UPAA-Iloilo Chapter.
An alumna of the UP High School in Iloilo (UPHSI) and UPV, Baliao also raised funds for the improvement of classrooms that included the donation of chairs by the UPHSI 1978 class; donation of ceiling fans in the CAS building by graduating students as part of the Senior Gift Project; and the P100-fundraising campaign for books at the UPHSI Library.
