Prof. Peter Sy, Assistant Vice President for Digital Transformation (Dx) and Dr. Manuel Ramos, Director of University Computer Center, UP Diliman conducted a consultative and exploratory meeting and site visit at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Miagao and Iloilo City campuses on August 6 and 7, 2024, respectively.
The consultation highlighted the University of the Philippines System’s efforts in enhancing its digital capabilities through the Digital Transformation Initiatives and IT Infrastructure. The objective of this consultation is to facilitate the development of plans and strategies for implementing these initiatives within UPV.
The activity was an opportunity to provide insights on the current experiences and challenges of UPV in IT related matters such as the transition from Unified Information System (UIS) to Personnel Unified Systems Outlook (PUSO) and Budget Utilization and Liquidation System Analytics (BULSA), and the strategies of UPV to align with the innovations and support flows in the offices based on the expectation of the UP System.
Prof. Sy presented the proposed organizational structure under the OPVDx, focusing on digital infrastructure and system integration. The initiative aims for cross-functional collaboration and a people-centric digitalization culture, leveraging the University's data and knowledge assets for future digital transformation and upskilling faculty and staff. Dr. Francis Dimzon, UP Visayas’ Dx Adviser, presented the vision and plans of the UP Visayas in terms of the Digital Transformation.
Asst. Prof. Rhea J. Subong-Espina, Director of Digital Innovation Center (DIC), discussed the ongoing projects of the DIC, including the PhP 63 million fiber optic upgrading and ICT infrastructure enhancement projects for UPV Miagao and Iloilo City campuses, Pandan Extension Campus, and Taklong Island Research Facility, which is being financed by the UP System.
The consultation was spearheaded by the University of the Philippines System Office of the Vice President for Digital Transformation (OVPDx) with the assistance from Digital Innovation Center (DIC). The meeting was attended by UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano, UPV office/ unit heads and personnel, DIC staff, and members of UPV Open Data and Digital Transformation Committee.
Prof. Sy and Dr. Ramos also visited the DIC’s completed and ongoing IT infrastructure projects in UPV Miagao after the consultation. On the second day, they visited the Network Operations Center in the Iloilo City campus and toured around the UPV Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage.
