Arinto appointed as UPV Tacloban College Dean

Prof. Patricia Arinto was appointed as Dean of the University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College (UPVTC) during the 1375th Board of Regents (BOR) meeting held on Nov. 10, 2022. 

She will serve as UPVTC Dean from Nov. 28, 2022 to Nov. 27, 2025. She was among the newly-appointed deans of the various colleges across the UP System by the BOR, during the said meeting. 

Arinto, a member of the UP Open University Faculty of Education, previously served as UPVTC Dean from Nov. 28, 2019 to Nov. 27, 2022. 

She also held the same position at the UP Open University from June 2011 to Nov. 2016. She was the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs (Curriculum and Instruction) of the UP System in 2019, and the UP Faculty Regent from 2017 to 2018.

She is currently the chairperson of the UP System Task Force on the Future of Teaching and Learning in UP and a member of the UP System Committee on Teaching and Learning (SCTL), UP General Education (GE) Council, and Technical Working Group for UP GE Program Evaluation.

Her research interests include teacher professional development in blended and online learning, learning design, and open educational practices.

She led a United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded assessment of the state of information and communications technology in basic education in the Philippines in 2012; an Australian Government-funded study on tablets for teaching and learning in nine public secondary schools in 2012-2014; and the Technology-Supported Teacher Professional Development in Early Literacy Instruction project in the Philippines in 2015-2017 which was funded by USAID through the Gerry Roxas Foundation.

Arinto has a Doctor in Education degree from the Institute of Education, University of London, an MA in Comparative Literature from UP Diliman, and a BA in Communication Arts from UP Visayas Tacloban College, where she was magna cum laude. 

She also has a Postgraduate Certificate in Technology-Based Distributed Learning from the University of British Columbia.
