AAM secures funding for upscaling production of Juan Algae Paste

Upholding its mission for a sustainable and responsive aquaculture practices, Algacon Aquafeeds Manufacturing secures funding for upscaling its production of Juan Algae Paste through DOST PCAARRD Startup Grant Fund Program. 

Ms. Soledad S. Garibay, CEO and Founder of Algacon Aquafeeds Manufacturing or AAM, signs a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) for the implementation of a one-year project titled “Up-Scaling Production of Juan Algae Paste for Aquaculture Application”. 

With this project, AAM aims to upgrade its laboratory facility to optimize culture conditions for sustainable large-scale production, increase the production and harvest capacity of algal paste from 150kgs to 300kgs per month, improve product quality and shelf life of Algal paste, expand market penetration and validation of Algal Paste application, derive knowledge output for information dissemination and to strengthen partnerships and collaborations. 

AAM, is the first R&D spin-off company of the University of the Philippines Visayas which started in June 2019, is involved in the production of the first locally-made microalgae paste in the Philippines, branded as ‘Juan Algae Paste’. AAM is also one of the pioneering incubatee of the UPV-DOST Fisheries Technology Business Incubation (FTBI) Project. Algacon Paste product variants include Tetraselmis Paste, Nannochloropsis Paste, Chaetoceros Paste.
