The graduating students of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) will be collectively known as the “UPV Graduating Class of 2024, Class Haraya,” making history as the first to have a class name and ushering in a new tradition in the University moving forward.
Class Haraya revealed its name prior to the orientation of graduating students on July 5, 2024, led by UPV University Student Council Chairperson Thea Kryshna Dayata, together with Reynald Laurea of the College of Arts and Sciences; Jose Leo Fortellano of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences; Tristan Ivan Rhy Atienza of the College of Management; and Meluny Bregabiel of the School of Technology.
The reveal was done a few days before the 45th Commencement Exercises scheduled on July 9 at the UPV Covered Court.
Class Haraya is the “pandemic batch” that spent the majority of its time in the online and hybrid learning setup during its stay at the University. The Class highlights creativity and adaptability to change and emergence from challenges.
“Haraya embodies the collective imagination of every graduating, Iskolar ng Bayan, who continuously, and will always be, pliable, as we all face, and lead a life different from what we have lived in the past four or more years,” Class Haraya disclosed.
