“If truth be told, at first, I couldn’t believe that I got into the Top 10. But the news eventually sank in, I accepted it with humility and rejoiced with my family and loved ones.”
So said Elizalde Miguel Salazar Flores, an alumnus of the School of Technology, UP Visayas, of his achievement in the Chemical Engineering Licensure Exam given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)this October.
Flores scored 82.20%, placing 5th among the examinees. This feat is no surprise to those who know him. He also graduated magna cum laude and was UPV’s valedictorian with the highest GWA among the Class of 2020.
“I think this will inspire me to do better in my career as an engineer and hopefully inspire others who are on the same career path, as well as those who want to be chemical engineers,” further reflecting on what he has accomplished.
Flores was once asked what his UP education has taught him and this was his answer:
“We should always be reminded to live by the motto, ‘serve the people.’ This is what UP taught me – to use my skills to help our country continue on the path to progress particularly in improving the lives of our people. But for now, I think the first order of business is to help our country recover from this pandemic.”
According to PRC, the October 2021Chemical Engineering Licensure Exam had 679 examinees and only 321 successfully passed the board exam.
