The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) was awarded the Bronze and Silver Award for its efforts in the field of intellectual property (IP) and innovation from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) during the 2024 Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) Presidents’ Summit at the Dusit Thani Hotel Manila on March 18, 2024.
The citations were given to UPV for its contributions and collaborative efforts in IP management and initiatives through IP training and lectures and patent search activities through the Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (UPV TTBDO). The award signified recognition of the university's commitment to excellence in terms of IP management and protection and innovation in research and development. The plaque of recognition was received on behalf of UP Visayas by Ms. Ferelyn Oliva, designated ITSO Manager and UPV TTBDO IP Officer.
The 2024 President’s Summit is a platform to recognize and award the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) members who have diligently fulfilled the ITSO 2.0 Clustering deliverables for 2023 with the theme: “ITSO: Celebrating Collaboration, Cultivating Innovation”. The event was also followed by a general assembly with presentations on updates in the ITSO program implementation, empowering ITSOs to generate more innovative and impactful outputs stemming from their research and development endeavors.
UPV is a long time member of the IPOPHL program Innovation and Technology Support Offices (ITSO) or "Patent Libraries". ITSO members function on three pillars of IP: creation, protection, and utilization. The members are then clustered into categories based on their competencies through IP outputs, with commercialization and patent applications as the highest priority. (With sources from IPOPHL)
