UPV Campus Infrastructure Committee conducts consultation with UPV community for Improved Coordination and Impact Management of Construction Projects

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Campus Infrastructure Committee (CIC) organized a stakeholder consultation on March 21, 2024 at the GDP Office, UPV Iloilo City campus.

In attendance were the officials and representatives of the academic and academic-support offices (Division of Professional Education, UP High School in Iloilo, Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod, Graduate School Office, Office of the Student Affairs, and UPV Main Library), student organizations (Student Councils of College of Management and UP High School in Iloilo, Validus Amicitia Brotherhood, Inc., Hamili/Hamilia, and Silak/Silak Inc,), the officials of the UPV Consumers Cooperative, and the Commission on Audit (COA).

The activity aims to inform the UPV community of the details of the projects through the 2024 General Appropriations Act. The activity presented the impacts of the projects and the planned mitigating and management measures. The consultation also aims to get people's support for the smooth project implementation.

Three infrastructure projects are located in the UPV Iloilo City campus:

  • Construction of the New College of Law Building (100M)
  • Construction of the Multipurpose Building (20.5M)
  • Renovation of the Old High School Building (10M)

The Expansion and Operationalization of the UPV Extension Campus (30M) is located in Pandan, Antique.

The current administration has put in place mitigating and management measures to respond to the temporary inconveniences that the stakeholders will experience during the projects' construction phase. At the Open Forum, the CIC and the participants discussed the general plans for employees and students whose existing offices and Tambayans will be affected by the three infrastructure projects. New spaces and locations will be provided for them. The cafeteria and consumer's cooperative store will continue to operate. A separate meeting will be held for the design and use of specific facilities and the assignment of spaces.

Prof. Rhodella Ibabao, Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development and Chair of the UPV CIC; Ar. Christian Rodeo Pancrudo, Lead Architect of the Campus Architect Team-OVCPD; and Engr. Rio Lemana, Focal Person of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team-OVCPD facilitated the consultation and answered queries.

Engr. Mario Morano, Chief of the Campus Development and Maintenance Office; Engr. Reginald Monsale; and Engr. Edzel Montehermoso also responded to questions of the stakeholders.

Overall, the infrastructure projects will improve the experience of stakeholders on campus through new and upgraded disaster and climate-resilient facilities and be responsive to the users' needs.
