CM Conducts Research Mentor-Mentee Workshop

To further strengthen its research competencies, the faculty members of the College of Management participated in a 3 day Research Mentor-Mentee Workshop last August 7-9.

Resource speakers Prof. Evelyn Alobba from the Division of Professional Education provided a thorough review of the different components of a research proposal while Ms. Kristine Charisse Muyong of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Extension discussed UPV’s procedures for research proposal submissions.

The participants grouped themselves according to their common research interests and each cluster had a senior faculty researcher as mentor and junior faculty members as mentees

With a wide range of research topics such as governance, consumer attitudes, tourism & hospitality, and enterprise planning, the participants presented their initial plans and drafted proposals.

The workshop aims to not just increase the research output of the college, but more importantly, to foster collaboration and to build a supportive culture with a stronger commitment in research.

UPV graduate students capacitate 83 SK chairpersons in Leon, Iloilo on project development, proposal writing

In a significant move to empower the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairpersons in the Municipality of Leon, Iloilo, the University of the Philippines (UP) Visayas Master of Management major in Public Management (MMPM) students organized a Project Development and Management Workshop on August 10, 2024. This public service was organized as a class project for the course MGT 243 (Program Development and Management) under Asst. Prof. Ma. Rhona P. Beriales of the College of Management. The workshop is anchored on the stipulations of Republic Act 10742, or the "Sangguniang Kabataan Reform (SK) Act of 2015," which highlights the importance of the SK's role as a training ground for effective local governance and administration.

Faculty Members of the College of Management Lead in the Lecture Series during the 12th UPV-Miagao Friendship Week Celebration 2024

The UPV College of Management faculty members served as resource persons in a productive Lecture Series held last July 24-25, 2024 in celebration of the UPV-Miagao Friendship Week. The featured topics were anchored on this year’s theme, “Pasakdag kang Maayo nga Kaangtanan sa Komunidad kang Miagao”.

On July 24, 2024, Ms. Liza Joy Galanza highlighted strategies for ethical digital communication through the topic “Responsible Use of Social Media”. In another lecture, Ms. Jenny Pelasol discussed various approaches to resolving conflicts with the topic “Conflict Management: Coping with Problems in the Workplace”.

On the second day, Prof. Melanie Sartorio conducted the training “Effective Communication and Dialogue”, while Prof. Frediezel De Leon and Ms. Mary Ann Sedero steered a separate training on “Business Model Canvas and Personal Entrepreneurial Competency”.

With 215 employees from UPV and LGU Miagao as participants, the series aimed to strengthen community bonds while gaining valuable professional insights. Dr. Rhodella A. Ibabao, UPV Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development and Mr. Jose Angelo P. Molejona, supervising Administrative Officer of LGU Miagao, addressed the training participants with their respective messages. The training sessions were under the facilitation of the UPV Office of Continuing Education and Pahinungod.

UPV CM partners with YWRTC towards positive youth development

The UPV College of Management has collaborated with the Youth Work Research and Training Center (YWRTC) to advance positive youth development. Following extensive learning sessions, the inaugural cohort of the Short Course Certificate on "Positive Youth Development and Bridging Leadership for Effective Children and Youth Programming" presented their capstone projects. The panel, comprising members from YWRTC and faculty from the College of Management, evaluated these projects, marking the culmination of their educational journey and practical application toward fostering positive youth outcomes.

Dr. Philip Ian Padilla, Chairman of the Board of YWRTC, highlights the pressing social challenges our nation faces and underscores the crucial role of adept youth development leaders in shaping and securing our nation's future. The collaborative short course, tailored for Filipino leaders passionate about youth empowerment, commenced with remote classes in April and culminated in the June presentation of capstone projects.

The course was also successful due to the dedicated faculty members who served as resource persons during the remote learning sessions. Asst. Prof. John Lorenz R. Belanio, Ms. Pearl Gladys O. Diano, Asst. Prof. Frediezel G. De Leon, Asst. Prof. Christopher B. Honorario, Ms. Jenny J. Pelasol, Mr. Rodney H. Rubinos, Asst. Prof. Melanie R. Sartorio, and Ms. Mary Ann T. Sedero, each brought their unique expertise to the course, enriching the learning experience for the participants. The completion ceremony held at the Cinematheque, UP Visayas, Iloilo City on June 15, 2024 honored short course completers from various regions across the country.

CM trains DOH employees

Faculty members of the College of Management facilitated a training on “Enhancing Team Unity and Work Attitudes” for the employees of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Western Visayas.

The training forms part of the learning and development intervention program of the DOH-CHD Western Visayas aimed at building rapport and strengthening group cohesion among DOH-CHD Western Visayas personnel.

A total of 145 participants underwent a 16-hour training designed to promote an increased appreciation of the value of healthy interpersonal relationships and effective communication strategies in achieving the goal of the Department. The training included a series of team building activities and lecture/discussions on moral values formation, employee appreciation, leadership, teamwork, and motivation.

The UPV training team is headed by Asst. Prof. Melanie R. Sartorio. The four faculty members of the Department of Management who co-facilitated the training were Ms. Liza Joy Galanza, Ms. Jenny J. Pelasol, Asst. Prof. Rhea Subong-Espina, and Ms. Jee Grace Suyo-Diala.

UPV CM students share conference proceeds to the IP community in Janiuay, Iloilo

A successful turn over of donation to Onyok Magbanua, Tribal Chieftain of the Ati Community in Matag-ub, Janiuay, Iloilo, through the Panay Indigenous Culture Advocacy Group (PICAG), was made last December 22, 2023 as the chosen beneficiary by the CRM Conference 2023.

CRM Conference is an annual seminar organized by 4th-year Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, major in Marketing students from the University of the Philippines - Visayas with the theme, “Taralets AdvenTour!: Exploring Data-Driven Customer Service in the Tourism Industry.” As part of the conference’s initiative to help businesses and communities thrive, a portion of the generated profit from the seminar was donated to a partner Indigenous Peoples Community in Panay under the Panay Indigenous Culture Advocacy Group (PICAG).
