UPV MACH gets funding to mount series of exhibits

The University of the Philippines Visayas  Museum of Art and Cultural Heritage (MACH) and Lopez Museum and Library (LML) collaboration project Cycle 1 will finally push through. This is following the project’s budget of 7.5 million pesos was included in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) FY 2024.

The project is the brainchild of former Senator Franklin Drilon and supported by Senators Loren Legarda and Sonny Angara.

The collaboration project will specifically put on a series of art exhibitions at the UPV MACH employing pieces from the LML collection. The exhibition will feature pieces by notable Filipino artists such as Juan Luna, Felix Hidalgo, Fernando Amorsolo, and others.

With this partnership, UPV MACH fulfills its vision of becoming a university museum that serves students, scholars, and the community in the experience and study of art and cultural heritage. It also supports the goal of the LML to share its collection with a wider audience especially those outside the art and cultural center, that is, Manila.

The first cycle of the UPV MACH-LML collaboration is scheduled to begin in November 2024 through March 2025. Dr. Patrick D. Flores will be the chief curator, and OICA Director Martin Genodepa will be the assistant curator and head of the project.
