UPV-CFOS holds student consultation in preparation for the next academic year

A few months before the opening of the next academic year, the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas (UPV-CFOS) held an online consultation with its students on the conduct of classes for the BS Fisheries program last July 7, 2022.

The consultation was held to address various concerns of the students on the different learning and teaching modes that will be implemented for the Academic Year 2022-2023.

About 61 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the virtual dialogue to present the College’s plans for the opening of classes in September.

The students were introduced to the UP teaching and learning delivery, the CFOS program plan and guidelines on the gradual opening of its facilities and laboratories, as well as the University’s guidelines in holding the limited face-to-face classes.

CFOS will be implementing full remote learning of fisheries courses for all incoming first year students. This modality was adopted at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The learning mode for the General Education (GE) courses is yet to be determined. A blended mode of learning, which is both online and in-person classes, will be applied to upper-year levels.

CFOS Dean Prof. Encarnacion Emilia S. Yap was also present during the activity. The dean told the students that the plans presented might change depending on the alert level status in the province.

“Because the plans are iterative, there might be some changes. Rest assured that we have some contingency plans should there will be any changes in the alert level as far as the pandemic is concerned,” Yap said. She encouraged the students to keep themselves updated on the advisories and announcements and to communicate with the College for any concerns.

During an open forum, students’ concerns about dormitories and requirements for attending face-to-face classes were raised and responded to accordingly.

The consultation was facilitated by Ms. Josielou L. Chan, CFOS student relations officer, in coordination with the College’s coordinators for instruction, namely Mr. Leonilo F. Endoma, Jr., Ms. Byrille Tiara M. Galon, Ms. Jonalyn P. Mateo, Asst. Prof. Farisal Ungkakay-Bagsit, PhD., and Ms. Kyle Iris C. Touzo. (With sources from Ms. Josielou Chan)
