OSA and UPHSI collaborate to do View of Careers 2024

Many students finish senior high school without fully knowing what they want to pursue as a career someday. Some graduates pursue a course chosen for them by their parents, only to realize later on that it is not what they want. To guide the graduating class and students of UP High School in Iloilo in choosing the course most suited to them, the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) initiated the View of Careers 2024 held at the Little Theater last 13 March 2024.

The career talk was attended by the Grades 10, 11, and 12 students of UPHSI. Assisting the event were the Junior Peer Facilitators of UPHSI. Students Frenchie Mae Ballescas and Hannah Guadalupe served as program hosts.

The activity opened with a message from UPHSI Principal Prof. Edelia T. Braga, who emphasized the importance of choosing the right course in college. Ms. Ana Liza Subade from the Office of the University Registrar gave a comprehensive talk about UPCAT preparations and preparing for UPV college life thereafter.

View of Careers 2024 featured various University officials from the four colleges, each given ample time to give students an overview of their respective colleges and available academic programs. Representing their colleges were Prof. Ma. Rhona Beriales, College Secretary of the College of Management; Dr. Dennis Ong, College Secretary of the School of Technology; Prof. Steve Janagap, College Secretary and Prof. Lylve Maliz Zeller, Coordinator for Instruction of the College of Arts and Sciences; and Prof. Jerry Ian Leonida, faculty member of the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences.

The afternoon session featured the experiences of active professionals from various fields. Ms. Mylin Villar Batchanicha represented the ABM track, Atty. Rommel Bellones for the HUMSS track, and Dr. Aimee Sarena Ladrido Bayate and Ms. Stephanie Edurese Bilbao for the STEM track.

Prof. Agustin Huyong, OSA Director, closed the program with a message.
