The University of the Philippines Visayas topped the newest Webometrics world ranking for the best quality online content, web presence, and impact among educational institutions in Western Visayas.
Cybermetrics Lab released the Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities released by the at the end of January 2020 which revealed UP Visayas is in the first rank for the Region VI following other UP constituent headed by UP Diliman in the No. 1 slot with a World Rank of 1,272 out of over 20,000 universities worldwide.
Other UP units in the top slots are:
• UP Diliman, (no. 1)
• UP Manila, (no. 5)
• UP Los Baños, (no. 8)
• UP Mindanao, (no. 19)
• UP Open University, (no. 22)
• UP Visayas, (no. 25)
• UP Baguio, (no. 40)
UPV ranked 6178 for Openness Rank and 5624 for Excellence Rank and Impact Rank of 11952 to lead the top 5 universities for Western Visayas which include the following:
1. UP Visayas (no. 25)
2. Central Philippine University (no. 33)
3. West Visayas State University( no. 43)
4. John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation. (no. 63)
5. University of San Agustin (no. 66)
The latest 2020 Edition of the Webometrics Ranking of World’s Universities, published on January 28, ranked the world’s higher education institutions for Presence, Impact, Openness, and Excellence.
The Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Spain, says the ranking aims to promote the publication of web content among educational institutions and support open access initiatives, electronic access to scientific publications, and to other academic material.
