UP Visayas is continuously endeavoring to assist its students who are stranded in Miagao and Iloilo City campuses who wish to return to their places of residence now that the Second Semester has ended. Chancellor Ricardo Babaran has directed the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration and the OSA to take charge of the whole initiative.
Twenty three students were brought home to Negros Occidental through the help of the Negros Occidental Provincial Government, Bacolod City Mayor’s Office and the Office of Civil Defense on May 5, 2020.
Seven students from Miagao campus were also supposed to return home to Antique on May 12 after complying with the province's reentry requirements and after UPV has completed arrangements with the local authorities including the Inter Agency Task Force of the province. However, the students changed plans and eventually chose to remain in town on the day prior to departure.
Students who are interested to go home are to coordinate with their parents or guardians to check on the requirements of their individual Local Government Units and request assistance from the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) on how to secure these. They are also required to accomplish an undertaking once they have finalized their plans.
UP Visayas is prepared to provide transportation to take students to boarder entries within Panay and to the airport or the wharf for those to places beyond the island.
The University has been closely coordinating with the concerned government agencies regarding border restrictions and other requisites to ensure a smooth and safe trip home of the stranded students.
The University is also prepared to assist students should COVID-19 testing be mandatory in their LGUs prior to reentry.
Classes for the Second Semester officially closed in UP Visayas on April 30, 2020.
