UPV SSF conducts orientation on bomb threats

The UP Visayas Security Service Force conducted an orientation for the UPV personnel of the Miagao and Iloilo City campuses with UPV SSF Chief PI Raymund Germarino, (Ret.) as speaker on October 4, 2018. This was in response to the spate of bomb threats that have been happening in several schools in Iloilo City.

In a nutshell, this is what Germarino has discussed:

Protocol on How to Respond to Bomb Threats (Landlines, Cellphones, Messenger)

What to Do:

When receiving a phone call about a bomb threat, please do the following:

      1.) Stay calm
      2.) Keep the conversation going and do the following:
         * Take note of the medium of language used (Ilonggo, Cebuano, Filipino, etc.)
         * Ask who the person is (who will most likely not reveal his identity or give a fictitious name
         * Ask for the location of the bomb
         * Ask what kind of bomb it is
         * Listen to the environment from where the phone call is made. (Is it noisy, can you hear vehicle or people passing by, etc.)
         * Wait for the caller to hang up the phone
      3.) Immediately call the UPV Security Service Force

What NOT to Do:

1.) Panic

2.) Call other offices

3.) Go out and tell others

UPV Vice Chancellor for Administration Mary Ann Gumban tasked the SSF Chief to conduct the said orientation.
