Five literary writers from UP Visayas bag Palanca Awards

A professor emeritus and faculty members from UP Visayas were named winners in the 2018 in the different categories of the Palanca Awards for Literature 2018.
Leoncio P. Deriada, father of Contemporary West Visayan Literature, Professor Emeritus of the University of the Philippines Visayas was 3rd Prize Winner for “Dili Baya Ko Bugoy” Short Story, Cebuano Category.
Noel G. de Leon, faculty member of UP High School in Iloilo, Division of Professional Education, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas bagged 3rd Prize for his poem in Filipino Category “Ang Bata sa Panahon ng Ligalig: Mga Tala sa Loob at Labas ng Bayan ng San Diego.”
Early Sol Gadong, faculty member, UP High School in Iloilo Division of Professional Education of the College of Arts and Sciences clinched 1st Prize “Sa Lum-ok sang Imo Suso” Short Story, Hiligaynon Category.
Alice Tan-Gonzales, faculty member, Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences was 2nd prize winner for her Short Story Hiligaynon Category, “Haya”.
Dulce Maria V. Deriada, faculty member of the Division of Humanities, College of Arts and Sciences won 3rd Prize Short Story, Hiligaynon Category, “Candelaria.”
The awarding ceremonies will be at the Manila Peninsula on October 5, 2018.
The Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature, the longest-running and most prestigious literary contest in the country is now on its 68th year.
