Economics research class hold research forum on expenditure for selected goods at UP Visayas
Students in Economics Research class for AY 2017-2018 under the supervision of Prof. Alice Joan G. Ferrer presented the results of their undergraduate research in a Research Forum on Expenditure for Selected Goods by Households in Miagao, Iloilo at the MILC, College of Arts and Sciences, UP Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo on 12 July 2018.
These goods included canned goods and instant noodles by Christell Ann Pagayon and Razel Mae Calitina; fresh fish by Precious Magtulis and Neneth Ammen; sugar sweetened beverages by Katrina Anne Bulaoro and Faith Fuentes; alcoholic beverages and cigarettes by Caryl Angel Mae Caburnay and Shemaiah Queeny Shua Bautista; and electricity by Ellen Grace Galaura and Jan Chael Pon-an.
The research forum was held to share the results of the studies conducted among 1039 households from all 119 barangays in the municipality of Miagao in order to contribute useful information for policy making and program design to the local government of Miagao. The research is part of the requirements of the BS Economics program. Bound copies of the research reports for the LGU of Miagao were received by Mr. Jayfel Conato, representative of the Office of the Municipal Mayor, who also delivered the message of Mayor Macario Napulan of Miagao.
The half-day event was attended by more than 70 participants composed of punong barangays, kagawads, and representatives of local offices. Prof. Nilo C. Araneta, Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, welcomed the participants, including the representatives from the Office of the Municipal Mayor, Municipal Health Office, and Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative. The forum was organized by the research class.
