UP Visayas and Louisiana State University—Alexandria signs Memorandum of Agreement
The University of the Philippines Visayas and Louisiana State University—Alexandria (LSUA) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on July 16, 2018, at the UP Visayas Iloilo City campus. The agreement formalized the partnership that was forged in August 2017 when the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during which both parties pledged to cooperate in a spirit of greater understanding, to deepen friendly relations and ties and to foster collaboration.
The MOU was initiated by the effort of Prof. Steve P. Janagap who was then Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Gerard Dumancas, an alumnus of the Department of Chemistry and of UPV who chose the department as his host unit for his engagement as a DOST Balik Scientist scholar.
The MOA which will take effect this August and will remain in force for five academic years. It will allow student, faculty and researcher exchange between the two Universities which will strengthen not just their academic and research agenda but also the exchange of ideas from experts of the two institutions.
Dr. Gerard Dumancas signed the MOA on behalf of the Chancellor of LSUA, Prof. Guiyou Huang, Ph.D. UPV was represented by its Chancellor, Prof. Ricardo P. Babaran, Ph.D.
The Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Gay D. Defiesta, Ph.D., whose office facilitated the final draft of the terms stated in the MOA, acted as witnesses together with the current Chair of the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Danilo O. Ortillo, Ph.D. Also present were VCRE Prof. Rolly Fuentes, Ph.D., Assistant to the VCAA of UPV, Prof. Juhn Chris Espia who is in charge of the Internationalization program of UPV, Associate Dean of CAS, Prof. Nilo C. Araneta, Dean Arthur C. Barrido of the College of Management and faculty members of the Department of Chemistry. After signing the papers, Dr. Dumancas presented Chancellor Babaran with a token from LSUA.
