CWVS staff attend seminar-workshop on museum guiding
The personnel of the Center for West Visayan Studies attended a four-day Training-Workshop for Guides and Docents on May 7-10, 2018 at the National Museum’s Western Visayas Regional Museum, Bonifacio Drive, Iloilo City.
University Research Associates Darlene Joy Calsado and Sashah Dioso, Scientific Documentation Officer Ophelia Balogo, and Administrative Assistant Faith Reforma participated in behalf of the center.
They joined other participants who are tourism officers or staff of different Local Government Units in Western Visayas, accredited tour guides and tour agencies, and people from the academe. Topics in the said activity include “Iloilo History and Heritage,” “Fundamentals of Tour-Guiding and Spiel Delivery,” and “Fundamentals of Museum-Guiding with Testimonials and Introduction to Tour Script Writing.” The participants experienced guided tours of heritage houses. During the last day of the activity, the participants had a practicum by becoming museum guides themselves at heritage houses assigned to them.
The activity, which was organized by the National Museum, is the fifth of its kind to be conducted and the first to be held outside of Luzon. The venue of the activity was the century-old building which was formerly the Iloilo Provincial Rehabilitation Center and was restored and retrofitted to become the Regional Museum through the efforts of Iloilo Provincial Government, National Historical Commission and National Museum.
