Katalbas is the new CAS Dean
“Bridging Leadership for Transitions and Trailblazers”
Crafting her plans and programs for the College of Arts and Sciences with this in mind, Prof. Maria Severa Fe S. Katalbas is now ready to put them into action with her appointment as the new Dean of the College. She was appointed by the UP Board of Regents during its January 26, 2018 meeting.
“Our college is now ready to bridge leadership. Amidst the changes, the challenges and the choices, the college is steadfast in bridging leadership within, between and across agents and stakeholders of UP Visayas. It is a crucially ripe time to ascertain the indispensable role of our college as new leadership for the UP system and UP Visayas are emboldened with the mission of being the national university,” she elaborated of her vision for CAS.
The transition that Katalbas is focusing on is the K to 12 to curriculum and its impact not only on the secondary education system but in the tertiary levels such as UPV.
She said that the UP High School in Iloilo, managed by CAS “has successfully commenced its Senior High program with the full support of our college in terms of faculty service, course development and inter-disciplinary collaborations.” She added that the K-12 program has also challenged CAS to come up with a new GE framework and has taken on the role of championing and improving the 11 core GE subjects to be offered starting 2018.
As for trailblazing, Katalbas said that CAS has witnessed changes in UP Visayas leadership and took on varying mandates from them. Currently transitioning to a new leadership, she said that CAS is always ready to support, collaborate with and become trailblazers for the new administration.
“We never failed to ensure that our tripartite function and mandates are fulfilled beyond the standards set by the university. Our college is an adaptive entity able to follow through inter and trans-disciplinary collaborations with other colleges and schools. We have proven to be trailblazers in research, teaching and public service.
Katalbas will serve a three-year from November 10, 2017 to November 9, 2020.
