UPV’s Topor and Garibay awarded research disclosure incentives

Dr. Vivian A. Topor, faculty member of the Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences and Ms. Soledad S. Garibay, University Researcher of the Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences were the recipients of the 3rd Invention Disclosure Incentive Award given by the Technology Transfer and Business Development (TTBDO) of the UP System on October 13, 2017 held at the Auditorium of the Institute of Biology, U.P. Diliman.

The invention disclosed by Topor is an organic pH test kit used as indicator of pH, acidity and alkalinity of liquid substances or solutions. The inventor has already a prototype and has tested it in her chemistry classes. While Garibay has disclosed her device to collect and concentrate microalgae to produce live algal paste. Algal paste is an alternative to microalgae as live feed in hatcheries for various aquatic organisms like shrimp, shellfish and milkfish. It can collect different species of algae, such as, Tetraselmis sp., Nannochloropsis sp., and Chaetoceros calcitrans, and a freshwater species Chlorella vulgaris.

The Invention Disclosure Award is an incentive program of TTBDO to promote and encourage disclosures of patentable technologies from faculty members, researchers, students, staff and visiting professors undertaking research and/or creative activities pursuant to any program, project grant or contract under the auspices of the University. To qualify for the IDI, the technology must have a proof-of-concept and has conducted a preliminary prior art search to show the potential of the patentability of the invention. One must submit an Application Form for IDI, complete and duly-signed invention disclosure form to start the disclosure process and co-inventor’s agreement, if applicable.
