Gender rights advocacy highlighted in Miriam Santiago's 1st death anniversary
The UPV Gender and Development Program in partnership with Ugsad Regional Gender Resource Center commemorated the 1st death anniversary of the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago by organizing a small gathering on September 29, 2017 at the GCEB Training Room, UP Visayas Iloilo City Campus.
The said event was attended by GAD advocates coming from UP Visayas and Ugsad member-institutions in the region.
The said activity aimed to honor and recognize the contributions of the late Senator as a gender and human rights advocate. The occasion also served as venue for discussion on the current human rights and gender rights concerns in the Philippines.
Atty. David Bermudo, Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights Region VI and representatives from different peoples' organizations such as BAYAN Panay, GABRIELA Panay and Iloilo Pride Team gave brief situationers on human rights, women’s rights and LGBTQ rights in the country.
