Acapellago performs at Parangal
The 2017 graduates, their parents, benefactors and alumni were honored with a Commencement Concert as they graduate from the University of the Philippine Visayas. This was through a performance by the singing group Acapellago on June 21, 2017 at the UPV Auditorium, Iloilo City.
Acapellago’s repertoire at the Parangal was composed of the following: 24K Magic, Ulit-Ulit, Hasula, Peroplano, Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko, Can’t Stop the Feeling, Queen of the Night, Burlesque, and Conga.
Acapellago is a Filipino contemporary a Capella group composed of Michelle Pascual, Almond Bolante, Joshua Cadelinia, Ronnel Allen Laderas, and Ricky Gavin Laderas. They won the grand champion spot at the Talentadong Maloleño (2012) and in the prestigious Akapela Open, a contemporary a Capella competition organized by Mr. Ryan Cayabyab, One Meralco Foundation, and the PLDT-Smart Foundation. They won the Gold Award and was named as Grand Champion of the A Capella Championship 2015 (International Category) in ITE College Central, Singapore. They also represented the Philippines and won first runner up in the Vocal Asia competition in Taiwan and proclaimed Grand Champion in the Aka Acapella VIII in Singapore. They were recognized by the National Commission for Culture and the arts as one of the outstanding Filipinos in the field of Music, and received the Ani ng Dangal trophy. The group was signed up by Viva Records in 2015 with their performance showed in TV commercials and You Tube videos.
This year’s Parangal Committee was chaired by Prof. Martin G. Genodepa and have the following as members: Prof. Joel Labos, Prof. Mary Rose Rebueno, Ms. Juvy Janeo, Ms. Noemi Grace Palmares, Ms. Fryia Jaye Guzman, Prof. Anna Liza Barcelona, Prof. Donne Jone Sodusta, Mr. René Trance, Ms. Maureen Kaye Ongo, Ms. Sharie Biñas, Mr. John Niño Sacmar and Mr. Ruperto Quitag.
