The fourth module of the Professional Masters in Tropical Marine Ecosystems Management (PMTMEM) program was held at the UP Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo Campus from June 22 until June 30, 2015. The module on Strategic Planning for Marine Protected Areas (TMEM 221) was hosted by the UPV, through the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies - College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (IFPDS-CFOS).
In this module, the processes as well as the tools in planning, establishing, and sustaining marine protected areas (MPAs) were discussed. The PMTMEM students were also expected to develop strategic plans for the establishment of MPAs as well as evaluate management plans of existing MPAs.
The professors and resource persons in this module include Dr. Hazel Arceo (UP Marine Science Institute, MSI), Atty. Allette Nuñez (Provincial Environment Management Office, Negros), Prof. Nestor Yunque (UPV), Prof. Alice Prieto-Carolino (UPV), Dr. Liah Catedrilla (UPV), Dr. Porfirio Aliño (UP MSI), Dr. Cleto Nañola (UP Mindanao), Mr. Mar Guidote (EcoFish), Ms. Stella Maris Sala (BESECURE), Mr. Lito Mancao (RARE), Dr. Nathaniel Añasco (UPV), and Dr. Carlos Baylon (UPV).
Five students are enrolled in this first tri-campus professional masters program of the University, which is being offered in UP Diliman, UP Los Baños, and UP Visayas.
