“As trainees of UP Visayas, we’ve learned a lot for us to become better individuals. In behalf of this year’s batch of trainees, I would like to extend our warmest gratitude towards each and everyone who have been with us during the whole duration of our training here in UPV,” said Honey Rose Acquin, a third year BS Fisheries student trainee from the University of Antique Tario-Lim Memorial Campus (UATLMC), Tibiao, Province of Antique. Acquin spoke in behalf of her co-student trainees at the culminating activity of their month long on-the-job training (OJT) at the Institute of Aquaculture (IA), College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV), Miagao campus. The activity was held at the Conference Room, Umali Hall, CFOS on June 8, 2018.
Ms. Rose T. Mueda, a member of the Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS), Institute of Fish Processing Technology, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, UP Visayas was the sole speaker from the Philippines to speak at the 15th INFOFISH World Tuna Trade Conference and Exhibition - the world’s leading event dedicated for the tuna industry held on May 28-30, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Cheryl Joy Fernandez of the College Management (CM) received a research grant from the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) - Emerging Interdisciplinary Research Program (EIDR) Cycle 8 – the first UPV-led EIDR project since the research program started in 2011. Her research project entitled, “Promoting sustainable tourism development of small islands in the Visayas,” intends to characterize current conditions, gaps, and opportunities relating to sustainable tourism development and to develop site-specific strategies for collaborative sustainable tourism development for small island communities.
Prof. Harold M. Monteclaro and Ms. Liberty Espectato, director and faculty member of the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies, respectively, presented papers at the 4th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity (WCMB) on May 13-16, 2018 held at Palais des congrès de Montréal, Canada.
