UP Visayas sectors raise concerns with chancellorship nominees at Tapatan 2026

Members of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) community raised the concerns of their respective sectors with Dr. Clement Camposano and Dr. Joefe Santarita, the two nominees for the next UPV Chancellor, at Tapatan 2026, organized by the All UP Academic Employees Union – Iloilo Chapter and the UPV University Student Council at the CFOS AV Hall, UPV Miagao campus, Sept. 14, 2026.

Tapatan 2026 featured multiple segments, but the highlights were the panel questions and open forum where the organizers ensured that the sectors were given enough time to raise their respective concerns.

Some of the concerns aired included the potential expansion of UP’s presence in Negros, the tenure system of the faculty, plantilla positions for contractual personnel, availability of resources for student organizations and publications, the new campus loop, the transfer of the College of Management to the Miagao campus, and the full operationalization of the Committee on Academic Freedom and Human Rights, among others.

The panel was composed of representatives from the student councils, student publications, faculty, staff, administrative personnel, Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS), contractual/job order/contract of service personnel, and the community (BSUTODA).

Tapatan 2026 is a separate activity from the multiple sectoral consultations conducted by the 2026 Search Committee for the Chancellor of UP Visayas last August. It can also be recalled that Dr. Camposano and Dr. Santarita took part in their respective public fora on Aug. 18 and Sept. 9 as part of the search process.

The committee is scheduled to submit its final report to the UP President today, Sept. 15, 2026.
