To keep up with modern teaching approaches and build better learning environments, the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS), UP Visayas (UPV) conducted a two-day “Training Workshop on Teaching Effectiveness and Course Design” on August 13–14, 2026, at the CFOS Conference Room, Umali Hall, UPV Miagao campus.
Led by Asst. Prof. Joshua M. Regalado, CFOS coordinator for instruction, the UPV Academic Program Improvement (API)-funded initiative equipped newly hired, junior, and senior faculty members with practical strategies for developing engaging, outcomes-based courses. The workshop aimed to continually enhance faculty expertise in effective teaching methodologies, course design, and student-centered learning approaches.
The workshop featured two seasoned educators from the College of Education, U.P. Diliman, namely Dr. Elenita N. Que and Prof. Jon Paul F. Maligalig as resource speakers.
An expert in instructional technology, digital learning and education challenging contexts, Que led sessions on course design using ADDIE and backward instructional design models, SMART learning outcomes, Bloom’s Taxonomy, constructivist principles, and strategic educational media selection.
With specialization in educational technology, game-based learning, and digital learning systems, Maligalig facilitated modules on course pack development frameworks, technology integration models (TPACK and SAMR), and effective strategies for both in-person and online teaching environments.
The workshop focused on real-world classroom application. It helped faculty adapt to modern higher education trends by focusing on student-centered teaching, empowering them to streamline their course outlines and build more engaging assessment plans.
The participants, after the two-day activity, were required to draft and submit updated OBE syllabi, course guides, and revised course modules/packs. These outputs will serve as updated teaching materials, directly improving course delivery and student learning experiences at CFOS.
