OUR holds Orientation on the Proper Interpretation of Entries in PSA-Issued Documents

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) conducted an Orientation on the Proper Interpretation of Entries in PSA-Issued Documents on 5 May 2026 at the Conference Room of the New Administration Building, University of the Philippines Visayas, Miagao campus. The resource person for the activity was Mary Grace D. Dorilag, Registration Officer IV of the Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office VI, Iloilo City.

During the orientation, Ms. Dorilag discussed the legal basis of Civil Registration, types of civil registry forms, entries in PSA-issued documents, special cases of birth registration, suffix placement rules, common registration concerns, updating a child’s surname, correction of erroneous entries, and other related topics.

The orientation was attended by 13 participants headed by Asst. Prof. Nilo Araneta, University Registrar, together with 12 OUR staff members. Ms. Mary Jane Castromayor served as the master of ceremonies.

The activity was conducted in recognition of the OUR’s vital role in the management, processing, and issuance of students’ academic documents. Ensuring the accuracy and consistency of these records is of utmost importance. The OUR frequently encounters concerns involving the interpretation of students’ personal information, which may affect student records and academic credentials.

The orientation served as a valuable guide for OUR personnel in ensuring consistent, accurate, and policy-aligned standards in interpreting personal entries in PSA-issued documents. Furthermore, it is expected to strengthen the OUR’s document validation processes and minimize errors in handling student records.
