UPV presents key dev’t areas for collaboration to partners

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), through the Finance and Resource Analysis Staff under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development (OVCPD-FRAS), conducted the hybrid roundtable meetup titled “IGNITE UPV: A Development Platform for Smart, Vibrant, and Sustainable Community,” at the OICA Conference Room, UPV Iloilo City campus, May 12, 2026.

Potential development partners from various sectors participated and expressed interest in collaborating with UPV. The event was the first public articulation of the University’s resource generation framework based on the UPV Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP) 2021-2030.

The University has allotted around 90 hectares for the resource generation zone and other identified areas open for development, which should be aligned with its mandate for teaching, research, and extension.

To maximize UPV’s resources in Miagao, OVCPD-FRAS presented three key development areas to partners: Western Visayas Science and Technology Park, Renewable and Green Infrastructure, and Urban Academic Revenue Initiatives.

Specifically, collaborations under the Renewable and Green Infrastructure include the UPV-Philippine Coconut Authority Coconut Farm (Phase 2), Renewable Energy Farm, and the UMA Farmers Village.

Meanwhile, the Roadside Farmers Market and Transit Center, Artisan Village, and Study Park and Community Service Complex will be part of the collaborations under Urban Academic Revenue Initiatives.

The IGNITE UPV is in its incipient stage, open for co-creation and preparation for a comprehensive and investable plan. The participants were invited to engage and have likewise expressed their interest in collaborating.

The collaboration may come in various forms, such as development patron, business partners, direct investors, or innovation partners (sharing of resources and expertise). The event is a take-off point to future events that call for collaboration to formalize and actualize the resource generation plan of UPV.
