As part of its commitment to enhancing literacy among daycare learners, the University of the Philippines Visayas Language Program (UPV-LP) turned over two boxes of children’s books to the local government unit (LGU) of Badiangan, Iloilo, at the Badiangan Municipal Building on January 23, 2026.
During the turnover ceremony, Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Member Serafin “Palong” Villa Jr., Committee Chair on Social Services and representative of the Office of the Mayor, expressed deep gratitude to the University for choosing Badiangan as its partner. He noted that the donation could help nurture a culture of reading and lifelong learning in the municipality.
In response, Asst. Prof. Rene C. Trance, UPV-LP faculty-in-charge, emphasized that the donation is an integral part of the Read UPV Project, through which children’s books are distributed to literacy program partners. For the Badiangan LGU, the UPV-LP collaborated with Grade 8 and 9 students of UP High School in Iloilo, who generously donated 121 preloved children’s books in September 2025.
The ceremony concluded with a photo opportunity in the new conference room and in front of the Badiangan Municipal Building, where daycare workers happily raised their chosen children’s books. Mr. Richard Armada, Focal Person/Day Care Worker II; Ms. Girlie Mae Pescadera, Child Development Teacher; and Ms. Marian Janice M. Mamon, UPV-LP staff, closely coordinated to ensure the success of the turnover ceremony. (UPV-LP)
