The University of the Philippines Visayas Graduate School (UPV GS) held the “Graduate Studies and Research Program on Sustainable Transformation of Coastal and Fisheries Systems through Innovation,” attended by GS faculty members and students from the different academic units of UPV, at the GCEB AVR, UPV Iloilo City campus, Sept. 18, 2026.
The seminar-workshop provided an avenue to discuss insights on current developments, research directions, and opportunities for collaboration in the sustainable transformation of coastal and fisheries through innovation.
The discussion was led by resource speaker Dr. Rico Ancog, Deputy Director for Administration of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture, who talked about the programs, initiatives, and collaborations undertaken by SEARCA through its core programs on education, research, and innovation.
SEARCA supports its partner universities with their research to be translated into solutions-driven policy or interventions for inclusive and sustainable development.
The activity was envisioned to contribute to the development of relevant and responsive graduate research programs addressing local, national, and regional challenges in coastal and fisheries systems and sustainable resource management.
It likewise sought to identify opportunities for collaboration and potential support for graduate theses and research initiatives from various agencies and institutions, including SEARCA.
Through the seminar-workshop, the students were able to contribute based on their observations and knowledge on coastal areas, with relevance to their respective degree programs.
