The College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV-CFOS) officially welcomed its new and continuing students for Academic Year 2026-2027 during the Opening Exercises held on August 18, 2026, at the CFOS AV Hall, Pidlaoan Building.
CFOS Dean Prof. Dr. Harold M. Monteclaro set an encouraging tone for the event in his welcome address, urging students to embody the College’s vision, mission, and quality policy while reaffirming CFOS’s steadfast commitment to academic excellence.
“In our college, we practice quality assurance (QA). QA is a commitment,” Dean Monteclaro emphasized, pointing that the BS Fisheries program holds the distinction of being the first program in UPV and the 15th across the UP System to earn ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) certification.
He assured the incoming batch that they are in capable hands supported by distinguished faculty experts, modern facilities, and long-standing distinction as a center of excellence in fisheries education.
“At CFOS, you’re in good hands,” Monteclaro added.
To give students a feel for the campus community, the program featured an audio-visual presentation showcasing the history and mission of CFOS. Each academic institute and administrative unit was introduced by its respective head, complemented by lively student performances.
To encourage campus involvement, active CFOS student organizations were also presented to the incoming students.
Student representatives then shared their perspectives. Ms. Princess Majah Joy Abello presented the expectations of the incoming first-year class, while Mr. John Ivan Rey Mones, a fourth-year student, offered words of encouragement and guidance in response.
Hosted by Sean Buenavista and Debby Hope Canales, the event concluded on a high note with a community dance.
