UPV professors endeavor to preserve Ilonggo heritage through dance

The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) continues to strengthen its commitment to preserving and promoting Ilonggo cultural heritage through research and artistic excellence. This commitment was recently highlighted during the successful presentation of Sadsad Ilonggo: Devotion in Motion during the 3rd Saot Ilonggo Workshop and Validation of Dance Research, held on July 5, 2026, at Jubilee Hall in Iloilo City. The dance research was conducted by Asst. Prof. Teresita P. Nolledo and Mr. Crisanto S. Sorsano Jr., with the musical arrangement by Asst. Prof. Jose Taton Jr.

The University’s advocacy for cultural preservation extended beyond research as Panublion: UP Visayas Cultural Dance Troupe proudly represented UP Visayas at the launching of the 3rd Saot Ilonggo on July 31, 2026, at SM City Iloilo. Student performers from the University of the Philippines High School in Iloilo (UPHSI)—Ayanna P. Fuerte, Jonas Angelo Montaño, Wenz Jan Lacao, and Josh Lawrence Animas—delivered a captivating performance of Paseo de Iloilo, bringing to life the elegance and vibrancy of Ilonggo dance traditions.

Continuing this momentum, selected students from UPHSI and UPV are set to present Sadsad Ilonggo at the 3rd Saot Ilonggo: Iloilo City Dance Research Competition on August 21, 2026, at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Cultural Center.
