The University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) participated in Iloilo City’s commemoration of the 84th Day of Valor or “Araw ng Kagitingan,” April 9, 2026.
Ilonggos representing various sectors participated in the commemoration, which began with the “Freedom March” from the Iloilo Skate Park to the UPV Iloilo City campus and was followed by a program honoring the heroism of Filipino soldiers who fought for the country during World War II.
Dubbed “Lakad Kalayaan 2026,” the event was held to highlight the spirit of unity, patriotism, and remembrance. It was initiated by the 604th Community Defense Center, 6th Regional Community Defense Group, Reserve Command, Philippine Army (604th CDC, 6RCDG, RESCOM, PA).
In her message delivered by Iloilo City Councilor Atty. Sedfrey Cabaluna, Mayor Raisa Treñas said, “The courage of our heroes reminds us that strength is not found in the absence of hardship, but in the will to move forward despite. Let us continue to move forward with courage, knowing that every step we take is a tribute to those who never wavered.”
