On 5-6 March 2026, University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Soc Sci 5 – Section 5 (Understanding Gender) students, in collaboration with the UPV Gender and Development Program (GDP), organized a bazaar in celebration of Women’s Month at the CUB Mushroom Park, UP Visayas, Miagao.
Together with partner organizations, the students set up booths where they sold bouquets, pre-loved clothes, hand-made products, digital art, karaoke stalls, and photobooths. The students also hand out information, education, and communication materials about women and history among the UPV constituents.
With their entrepreneurship skills, the students were able to raise funds for the benefit of the elderly women under the care of the Asilo de Molo Home for the Aged. On 20 March 2026, the Soc Sci 5 class with Asst. Prof. Frances Anthea R. Redison turned over the donations to the organization, which was represented by Sister Myra Mondia, DC. During the turnover, some elderly offered a thanksgiving song to the students.
The advocacy project aims to encourage the students to apply their learnings in class and have real-life experience and understanding of the everyday struggle of women and elderly care.
