The festivities are underway for the University of the Philippines Visayas – School of Technology’s (UPV-SOTECH) 40th founding anniversary this 2026, with the theme, “Fortifying Futures, Forging Legacies.”
SOTECH officially kicked off its three-day celebration for its ruby anniversary with an opening program held at the SOTECH AV Hall on March 5, 2026.
SOTECH invited its BS Food Technology alumni, Ms. Jovy Garrido, the Port Manager of the Iloilo Fish Port Complex, to talk about her time as a student who struggled with academics but eventually became a professional who has carved out a formidable career.
“As I look back on my journey, I am grateful for the foundation laid by our mentors and professors, and the network of classmates and colleagues who have helped shape my professional path,” she said.
Garrido also encouraged the students that, aside from aiming for a job once they graduate, they should also aim to be impactful.
“As we commemorate this milestone, we are reminded that our core values remain unchanged — a commitment to academic excellence, innovation, industry partnership, and community service,” she said.
The opening program was attended by Chancellor Clement Camposano, SOTECH Dean Dr. Johannes Magpusao, faculty, staff, students, and previous deans of SOTECH.
SOTECH’s 40th founding anniversary is centered on innovation, conversations, camaraderie, and milestones.
Among the activities slated for this year’s celebration are the Open House, Exhibit, and Fun Day on the first day; the Research Forum, 3-Minute Pitch, and ConvEx 12.0 on the second day; and the Stakeholders’ Meeting and SOTECH Night to cap off the celebration.
