Chancellor Camposano’s New Year message to UPV personnel: ‘Work has deeper meaning’

Chancellor Clement Camposano welcomed back the administrative personnel of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) on campus during the first flag-raising ceremony of 2026, led by the Office of the Chancellor, at the New Administration Building, Miagao campus, Jan. 5, 2026.

“There’s a deeper meaning to work,” said Chancellor Camposano, who delivered an inspirational message to help re-acclimate UPV personnel after a lengthy holiday season break.

Chancellor Camposano emphasized a few points to help UPV personnel’s perspective on work, saying it is more than an instrument or a means of sustenance.

He said work is an opportunity to contribute to the common good of the institution and society in general.

“Whatever your role is, when you think of how all of the pieces fit for us to deliver what we should deliver, then there are really no small roles — everybody is important,” he said.

Through work, people develop skills, character, and connections. “We take on bigger responsibilities and through these responsibilities, understand that in fact, we contribute to society,” the Chancellor said.

He also emphasized service, saying, “You live for something bigger than yourself” by serving society and its people.

On a more religious note, Chancellor Camposano said work is an opportunity to participate in divine creation because creation is work.

Chancellor Camposano ended his message by saying, “Work becomes a real blessing for all of us — and if it is a burden, it is a burden that we all should willingly carry and carry with good cheer.”
