A wide variety of academic, co-curricular and fun-filled activities marked the 66th founding anniversary of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) that ran from February 13-15, 2013 mostly held at the main campus in Miagao with several events at the Iloilo City campus.
For three days, the CAS quadrangle had a fiesta-like atmosphere as it was filled with booths for peryahan games, booths featuring various student organizations and student gimmicks, a stage, a Ferris Wheel and bandiritas.
The fun part included rides and games, student fair, band concerts, performance art, standup comedy, film showing, bowling tournament for the CAS faculty and a CAS Faculty Cook-Off that showcased culinary talents and segued into a fellowship lunch. There were also a simultaneous open house and exhibits of all the offices at the Tomas Fonacier Bldg, Miagao campus and at the Museum and Gallery Exhibits Center of the West Visayan Studies, at the Iloilo City campus.
Academic activities icluded lectures on marine biodiversity, three dimensional art, photography, a workshop on proposal preparation and packaging worshop, and a research presentation. There were also quiz bee events for elementary and high school students, debate and lessons in basic Japanese, Korean, Spanish and French.
CAS also participated in the "One Billion Rising Dance Campaign" on February 14, a worldwide event in support of ending violence against women and children. There was also a Valentine's Fun Run where couples were tied together wrist to wrist and ran from the UPV covered court to the CAS building. The winner for the CAS Logo Contest was awarded.
The activities for the CAS foundation celebration were varied and many of which truly reflect the diversity and creativity of the college.
