RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
To help carry out the above goals, the following directions are put in place:
- Research thrusts shall be in fisheries, aquatic and other natural resources, and in information communication technology (ICT). Thus, researches in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, management, regional studies and education shall be complementary with these thrusts for the socio-economic, political, and cultural development in the Region.
- The University shall develop a system of technology verification, packaging and transfer, and promote publication and dissemination of research results and the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR).
RESEARCH POLICIES
In consonance with the University's mission of promoting excellence, the following are the policies:
- Research in the University shall be disciplinary, interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary. Complementary research undertakings shall be supported in addition to subject and area-specific researches.
- Research activities of graduate and undergraduate students may be supported through the research fund allocated to the college with the supervision of a faculty adviser if these are part of the faculty's- funded research.
- Research results must be published in peer-reviewed journals.
- The University shall develop a reward system for excellence in research.
- The University shall encourage and support the improvement of library holdings in the Philippines.
- A maximum of 6 ETUs may be allowed for a faculty conducting more than one research project.
- Faculty administrator with 6 ETUs for Administrative Load Credit(ALC) may be given not more than 3 ETUs for research.
- The University shall encourage and facilitate collaborative research with other research institutions, local and international, through the Universitys’ established linkages, Memoranda of Agreement and other mutually-arranged systems of understanding.
- The resources and facilities of the University shall be made available and accessible to researchers.
- Conduct of research, seminars, workshops and symposia of significance to the growth of disciplines shall be encouraged and supported.
- Faculty members following appropriate guidelines may opt to avail of 2 to 5 cumulative leave credits or teacher's leave during summer vacation.
