IFPDS-CFOS Conducted a Training-Workshop on Fish Catch Monitoring

Twenty-seven fisherfolk of Brgy. Nasidman, Ajuy, Iloilo participated in a Training-Workshop on Fish Catch Monitoring conducted by the Institute of Fisheries Policy & Development Studies, College of Fisheries & Ocean Sciences on June 28, 2016 at Brgy. Nasidman, Ajuy. This public service activity is in response to the request of the local government unit of the Municipality of Ajuy in order to capacitate the fisherfolk of the said barangay in a community-based fish catch monitoring system and record keeping as well as to increase their level of awareness on the importance of community-based fisheries management.

The Philippine Journal of Natural Sciences publishes original articles, short communications, and review papers on problems and issues in broad fields of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and in Fisheries Science. Original articles should not exceed 25 pages, double-spaced, including Tables and Figures. Short communications should not exceed 5 pages; these should include an abstract but may omit the usual major headings of full articles. Review papers will be solicited by the editor and members of the Editorial Board.

It incorporates some of the basic objectives and concerns of the old journal with the same name published by the University of the Philippines College of Arts and Sciences from 1976 to 1989, which focused on the sciences, the humanities, management and education.

Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension


The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension (OVCRE) is mandated to plan programs and activities that respond to research needs across the different colleges of the U.P. in the Visayas and shall work with these colleges to assist them in their particular research challenges. It is also mandated to initiate development of grant proposals that are interdisciplinary and not limited to a single field, and to initiate linkages which will enhance and bring in resources for research. Furthermore, it will identify and propose policies that will enhance and vitalize research culture and undertakings, and represent the university at critical meetings and fora for networking research institutions with research councils and sources of grants.
