
It was a sweep for the contestants of UP Visayas who participated in the 5th Regional BIOTA Research Competition held at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City on February 18, 2010.
Virna Zyra Jean N. Sevilla won 1st Place for her study entitled “Proximate Composition of Pholas Orientalis (Angel Wing Clam) Collected from Three Different Sampling Sites.” Diana D. Panaguiton won 2nd Place for her study on “Ammonia Excretion of Pholas Orientalis Starved at Different Days.” Aira Joy T. Araneta and Bea Camille N. Fillaro took the third spot for their study entitled “Temperature Tolerance of Juvenile Sea Horse (Hippocampus comes) and Adult Sea Horse (Hippocampus barbouri).”
All four are BS Biology IV students from the Division of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences. Their adviser is Prof. Julie Baylon, also from the same Division.
This year’s winners followed the footsteps of David Solo Gigawin and Basil Baylon who won 1st and 2nd places in the 4th Regional BIOTA Research Competition held on February 13, 2009.
The competition was sponsored by the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines.
