UPV searches for a new Chancellor

The University Philippines set into motion the search process for the next UP Visayas Chancellor when UP President Danilo Concepcion issued AO No. PDLC –17- 35 on August 3, 2017.

A search committee was formed to manage the search process. The 2017 Search Committee for the Chancellor of UPV is chaired by Dr. Kevin Henry Villanueva with the following members representing the various sectors of UPV: Dr. Joy Lizada (senior faculty), Prof. Mary Ann Gumban (junior faculty), Febe Carmen (REPS), Brian Sapinosa (administrative staff), Therese Arianne Samson (student), and Vice-President Joselito Florendo as the UP President’s representative.

Two nominees are vying for the position. They are: Dr. Ricardo P. Babaran and Dr. Philip Ian  P. Padilla.

UPVTC welcomes Healthy Lifestyle & Wellness program

This is what Maria Vivian J. Montes, Administrative Officer at the Dean’s Office of UPV Tacloban College (UPVTC), said ofthe launching of the UPV Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Program at the campus held on September 7-8, 2017.

State of the University Address

Serving as Chancellor of an institution such as the University of the Philippines Visayas for the past six years had been both a privilege and a joy for me. Leading it had also been a challenge as well as a test of courage and determination.

It was a joy to work with a great team of faculty and researchers who are experts in their respective fields as well as with the hardworking and skilled administrative personnel who facilitate the day-to-day operation of the university.

Yes, the challenges were great, but were not insurmountable given the valuable contributions of the members of the UPV management team composed of the vice-chancellors, deans, and heads of various academic and administrative units of the university.

BS Public Health Team Bakunawa bags 2nd straight National Unilab Ideas Positive Championship for UPV!

Team “Bakunawa” of UP Visayas composed of June Luis Salvador, Anna Nicole Cuachon, Bea Galupo, Precious Jemimah Legayada, Jason Clement Acebuque bagged the Unilab Ideas Positive Run 7 National championship on August 12, 2017.

Team Bakunawa was coined after the local word “bakuna” (immunization) and “unawa” (to understand). With Dr. Calvin de los Reyes as their mentor, the team was formed to do an intervention that aimed at increasing School-Based Immunization (SBI) in Pavia Ungka 2 Elementary School. Their 6-month social preparation and another 6-month work on empowering the school and barangay resulted in the reduction of school-based immunization refusal rate from 32% to zero% in that particular school.

Unilab Ideas Positive (UIP) started its national competition centered on awarding 100,000 pesos for a novel community health intervention program by the youth in 2012-2013 (run 1-2) which were limited to Metro Manila participants. In the national run, UPV teams consistently won 2nd place from runs 3-5 (2013-15) and then became national champions in run 6 (2016) under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Ian Padilla. Additionally, another UPV team bagged 3rd place in Run 4. Two more UPV teams made it to Run 6 as 3rd and 5th placers.
