Admissions Information for Domestic Students 

Master's Programs

1. An applicant for admission to the master's degree program must have a bachelor's degree or its academic equivalent from any institution recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

2. All applicants in the master's program must take and pass the entrance examination, except those applicants seeking admission to programs which do not require one. This examination may be directly administered by the academic unit concerned or by the Graduate Program Office.

3. The Dean of the concerned degree-granting unit shall act upon the admission of applicants upon the recommendation of the unit's Admissions Committee. 

Doctoral Program

1. For admission into a doctoral program, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum requirements in addition to the general requirements for admission:

a. possession of bachelor's degree or master's degree or equivalent degree or title from the University or from other recognized institutions of higher learning;

b. satisfactory evidence of scholarship and quality of academic work as indicated by previous preparation;

c. fulfillment of any special requirements for the major field that is chosen by the student;

d. intellectual ability; and,

e. demonstrated capability in research.

2. These requirements shall be assessed by an examination of the following:

a. undergraduate and graduate credentials;

b. recommendation of three (3) recognized scholars or practitioners in the discipline or professional area concerned;

c. interview with the applicant or other appropriate measure, and

d. curriculum vitae.

3. The Dean of the concerned degree-granting unit shall act upon the admission of applicants upon the recommendation of the unit's Admissions Committee. 

Admissions Information for International Students

Applicants who possess four-year bachelor's degrees from a recognized foreign institution may apply for admission. It is strongly recommended that the application be completed three months prior to the term in which the applicant wishes to matriculate.

In addition to the requirements of the concerned academic unit of the UPV, foreign applicants from countries where English is not the medium of instruction and/or not the native language, a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) rating of 500 or equivalent is required.

Those who fail in this requirement upon their application for a degree program may first seek admission into the University as non-degree students. However, they should pass the prescribed English course(s) at UPV or other valid English proficiency examination within the first year of their initial enrollment. 

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to these programs are subject to the fulfillment of the academic requirements as prescribed by the different colleges.

The following documents are required to support application for admission:

1. Two (2) copies of duly accomplished application forms (3 copies for CFOS programs) ;

2. Original and two (2) photocopies of official transcript of records of undergraduate (and graduate degree/s if any);

3. Certificate of Honorable Dismissal/Transfer Credential from the latest school attended;

4. one (1) original National Statistics Office (NSO) copy or certified transcription copy from the Local Civil Registrar of birth certificate;

5. One (1) original NSO copy or certified transcription copy from the Local Civil Registrar of marriage contract (for married female applicant);

6. Two (2) recent 2x2 pictures;

7. Two (2) letters of recommendation from former professors and/or supervisors; and

8. Certificate of English Proficiency for foreign applicants from countries where English is not the medium of instruction.

Application for admission should be submitted at least one (1) month before enrollment period. 

Graduation Requirements

1. Completion of all prescribed courses for the degree;

2. A minimum general weighted average grade of 2.0 for all the required courses for Master's degree and 1.75 for Ph.D. degree;

3. Passing the comprehensive examination or oral defense of thesis or special problem;

4. Submission of at least eight (8) bound copies of thesis/dissertation, or five (5) copies for special problem; and

5. One (1) year residency immediately prior to graduation.
